OCS 2007 R2 Bandwidth Requirements

Microsoft has several places where they have documented the bandwidth requirements for Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

TechNet has a section on Capacity Planning for OCS 2007 R2 that includes the numbers.

TechNet also includes the numbers in the Hardware and Software Requirements for OCS 2007 R2.

The Office site includes the numbers in the Client System Requirements documentation.

There are other places on the Microsoft site as well as several blogs that also contain the numbers.

The issue that is most important is that we really need to understand that it is important to fully load the bandwidth requirements. That means we need to include the full payload that includes the overhead of TCP/IP (i.e. framing and routing), Encryption, and the protocols themselves (RTP and SRTP).

As per the Microsoft documents, the required and recommended bandwidth speeds are cumulative. For example, if you want to use voice, Webcam, and the RoundTable device, the minimum bandwidth would be the numbers above added together.
