Initial Configuration Tasks Window

Did you ever find yourself wanting to access the Initial Configuration Tasks screen that appeared when you first setup Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2?

Usually, I check the box in the lower left hand corner that says, Do not show this window at logon so that it stops popping up every time I log onto the server.

I needed it the other day to explain something to a student, and it drove me nuts for a few minutes. Obviously, I can’t just click Start, Administrative Tools, and then click on Initial Configuration Tasks or something like that. It just isn’t there.

Luckily, I remembered that it is called Out of Box Experience. If you go to Start, and then click in the Search programs and files box and then type oobe, you can access it there. You can also get to it by clicking on Start, Run (assuming you set it up) and then type oobe to run it there, too.

I hope this helps somebody.
