Elevated Permissions Required for Cumulative Updates

It is very common for administrators to receive errors when applying Cumulative Updates (roll-ups) for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2010, and Office Communications Server 2007 and 2007 R2. Remember, these are changes that require administrative permissions and you need to elevate the permissions for these changes. The difficult part is that these updates do not generate UAC prompts at all, so you never really know why the updates aren’t applied properly. Below is an example of an error that is received when running the rollup for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Product: Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 (KB977349) — Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
